Effects of Corn Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) Under Hot Summer Conditions in Lactating Dairy Cows

چکیده
Corn distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), once considered a by-product of fuel ethanol production, are a recognized feedstuff for livestock animals. Today, DDGS is attracting increasing attention and is manufactured under quality-controlled conditions as a main product for livestock feed. DDGS is also expected to be beneficial to the livestock industry, because recent research projects have revealed that it contains high levels of protein and fermentation products. In Japan, DDGS has been used to a limited extent, but its use is increasing dramatically. For example, the import of DDGS in 2008 has nearly doubled since the previous year. However, only a limited amount of information has been obtained about the properties of DDGS from feeding trials. In lactating dairy cows, in particular, the effect of DDGS on the physical condition and properties of raw 2 milk is poorly understood, hindering its full potential as a feedstuff in dairy cattle. Against such backgrounds, this trial aimed to add a set of key information on the use of DDGS in dairy cattle under

Utilization of DDGS by Cattle
Distillers grains with solubles (DDGS), the major byproduct of ethanol production, is a good protein and energy feed for cattle. The DDGS can be fed wet or dried with animal performance usually similar when fed as wet or dried products; however, some research results favored the wet products. Cattle diets can contain DDGS as replacements for portions of both concentrates and forages, although D...

76.5 kg BW) were used in replicated 4×4 Latin squares to investigate the effects of brown midrib (bm3) and conventional (DP) corn silages, and the inclusion of dried distillers grains plus solubles (DDGS) on milk production and N utilization. In each 28 d period cows were assigned to one of four treatments: DP plus 0% DDGS (CON); bm3 plus 0%
متن کاملOptimal dairy farm adjustments to increased utilization of corn distillers dried grains with solubles.
The purpose of this paper was to identify effective dairy farm management adjustments related to recent structural changes in agricultural commodity markets because of expanded biofuels production and other market factors. We developed a mathematical programming model of a representative dairy farm in New York State to estimate the effects of changes in the relative prices of important feed com...
متن کاملEffects of variable sources of distillers dried grains plus solubles on milk yield and composition.
This study compared diets supplemented with distillers dried grains plus solubles originating from whiskey distilling with those from fuel alcohol production or soybean meal. Forty-eight cows in mid and early lactation were offered a different dietary treatment in each of three 28-d periods. Dietary design included three supplements at 14 or 18% CP of dietary DM, with or without blood meal. Add...
